About the game
The second expansion for Sid Meier’s Civilization VI tests
players with a world around them that is more alive than ever
before, with weather changes, natural disasters reflecting an
ecosystem that responds to the decisions civilizations make and a
World Congress that leads the global community in deciding on
critical issues facing the planet. The future of the world is
decided by players in Gathering Storm.
Volcanic eruptions, river floods, rising seas, hurricanes, dust
storms, blizzards, tornadoes and drought all challenge players to
research advanced technologies and build improvements to make their
cities more resilient. Some of these can destroy improvements and
district but they can also enrich resource yields. Meanwhile carbon
emissions from power generation can increase the frequency of
disasters, though green alternatives are available.
Strategic resources now play an additional role in Gathering
Storm. They are consumed in power plants to generate electricity
for your cities. Your first power sources will be coal and oil, but
renewable energy sources will unlock as you research more
contemporary technologies. The world’s temperature is directly
affected by resource use and left unchecked can cause the ice caps
to melt and sea levels to rise.
To help shape the future of the world, Gathering Storm
introduces the World Congress, which lets you make your voice heard
on a grand stage with other leaders of the world. Earn diplomatic
favors, influence cit-states, compete in World Games and more. You
can call a Special Session to address world emergencies and work
towards achieving a Diplomatic Victory.
In addition to more wonders, units, improvements, buildings and
districts, Gathering Storm adds two new compelling scenarios to
play: The Black Death and War Machine. In The Black Death, you must
lead your nation through a calamitous pandemic while in War
Machine, you and other players clash over the fate of Paris in
World War I.
